Spin dynamics near the field-induced gap-closing transition in 1D magnets
1D magnets are examples of U(1) symmetric systems which undergo a gap-closing transition when subject to an external field. When the strength, h, of the applied field crosses a critical value hc, quantum critical behaviour is observed. Sufficiently low temperatures result in two critical field values which give rise to three phases separated by nonsingular crossovers. These are the Tomonaga-Luttinger-Liquid (TLL) phase, the Quantum-critical (QC) phase, and the Free-magnon (FM) phase. We studied the spin dynamics of 1D magnets by calculating transverse spin correlators in the TLL and FM phases. These results were then compared to results from the 1D spin 1/2-XX model, an exactly solved model which exhibits a field-induced gap-closing transition, and therefore exhibits quantum critical behaviour.
